Sam C. Weaver

Chairman

Samuel Weaver—PhD, Chairman, has worked in the advanced materials industry for over 40 years. Founding his first company in 1970, he has served as President and CEO of nine development and manufacturing companies over the past 35 years. Most recently in 2001, Dr. Weaver completed the sale of Millennium Materials to Dyson Group PLC. Dr. Weaver holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the Missouri School of Mine, and holds nine issued patents in the area of advanced materials.

Board

Bill Gross—Board Member, founded Idealab in March 1996 and serves as the company's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Bill founded Idealab to create and build successful businesses that capitalize on innovations in areas with significant growth opportunities, including the Internet. 

A lifelong entrepreneur, Bill started several companies prior to Idealab. After graduating from college, Bill and his brother Larry started GNP Development, Inc., which made a natural language product for Lotus 1-2-3 called HAL. In 1985, Lotus Development Corporation acquired GNP and Bill became a software entrepreneur at Lotus Development.

In 1991, Bill started Knowledge Adventure, an educational software publisher that grew to be the third largest educational software publisher in the world and was eventually sold to Cendant Software and is now a division of Havas Interactive, which is owned by Vivendi.

Bill serves on the boards of directors of numerous companies. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and of the Art Center College of Design. Bill received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.

 
 

ChatDr. Suchindran "Chat" Chatterjee
Advisor

Chat Chatterjee—Futurist, aerospace engineer, international business executive, computer and technology scientist, university professor and philanthropist.

Chat is an adjunct full professor at Arizona State University and serves on its Dean's Council. He currently serves on the Customer Advisory Board of Delta Airlines.

Chat was Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at major corporations such as Nationwide Insurance, Mutual of Omaha Insurance, and The Bank of Montreal/Harris Bank. He was also Senior Engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation and Chief Engineer of Aerospace and Flight Testing at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee, and the Chief Maintenance and Construction Engineer at King's Bay Naval Trident Submarine Base, Georgia. Since 1973 he has been an adjunct full professor at Tennessee State University, The University of Tennessee Space Institute, The University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, Creighton University, and The University of Nebraska. He also served on the Alumni Board of Vanderbilt University and currently serves on his alma mater’s Admissions Council.

He has served on the board of Taligent Corporation, the now defunct advanced technology company started by IBM and Apple in 1992, later joined by HP, to create the next generation 32-bit and 64-bit GUI operating systems.

John Herrick

John Herrick—Senior Counsel at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP, focusing on the sustainability and clean technology practice area for the firm. John has extensive experience in assisting companies in securing funding for clean energy projects and structured new energy production facilities totaling over $4 billion. He structured the federal financing for the nation’s first cellulosic biorefinery and helped form numerous research and development partnerships with private industry, academia, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE EERE).

Prior to joining Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck in 2008, Mr. Herrick served as Chief Counsel at DOE EERE in Golden, CO for 15 years. John is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he teaches the nation’s premier law course on renewable energy and project finance.

Pavel Bouska

Pavel Bouska—25 years of technology and international organization management experience. Pavel was on the management and executive teams of Colorado-based Corporate Express, Inc. and Gaiam Inc. from their start-up phases, through successful IPOs to global expansions. As CEO, Pavel managed the acquisition and integration of Gaiam Energy Tech, Gaiam’s sustainability and renewable energy division (today Real Goods Solar, NASDAQ:RSOL). Pavel has served on the boards of directors of Gaiam, Inc., Gaiam.com, Inc. and ionSKY, Inc.

Pavel lives with his wife and 2 children in an energy-efficient solar house near Boulder, Colorado and he divides his free time between his family, management of his local fire protection district and teaching skiing at the Eldora SnowSports School.

Andrew Goldstein—30 years of experience in the commercialization of technology in the data storage, optical communications, and medical industries. He has held executive positions in engineering, quality, manufacturing, marketing, and materials. Andy’s experience covers both startup companies and Fortune 1000 companies. Most recently Andy held the position of Vice President of Product Generation at Medtronic Navigation in Louisville, where he led a 140 person engineering and upstream marketing organization. As one of the founding members of Network Photonics, he participated in raising $117M in venture funding and lead the engineering and operations team in the development of an all-optical MEMS wavelength switch.

Previous positions include COO at ProStor and Director of Engineering at Exabyte where he completed the development of five successful tape drives resulting in over $1 billion in revenue. Andy earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and has been awarded 4 patents.

Glenn Booth—Most recently Glenn was Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Cool Energy where he was responsible for company capitalization, development of partners, investor relations, and strategic marketing functions. Previously Glenn served as Vice President of Marketing for the Rajant Corporation, where he led the development and execution of the company marketing strategies and communications.

Glenn has over 25 years of successful marketing, business development, sales and engineering experience with Fortune 1000 and startup companies such as Boeing, Earthlink, Level 3 Communications, Vivato and Bay Networks/Nortel. Glenn has earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado and is a member of the American Marketing Association.

Samuel P. Weaver—Responsible for the engineering management and daily business operations. Sam has led product development teams and engineering projects throughout his career, and has worked as a researcher and designer in the field of optics and optoelectronics.

In addition to renewable energy, he has experience in a range of markets including telecommunications, data storage, and aerospace. Sam previously co-founded Colorado Photonics, a profitable small business providing telecom equipment distribution, and has led multiple engineering development efforts at startup companies during his career. Sam holds six U.S. patents and has authored numerous technical publications. Sam holds a B.S. in engineering and applied science from the California Institute of Technology, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the State of Colorado Clean Energy Development Authority.
