SOLARFLOW™ COMBINED HEAT AND POWER SYSTEM FOR HOMES AND BUILDINGS
The Cool Energy SolarFlow™ system brings together two progressive, mature technologies - solar thermal collectors and heat engines - to provide buildings with renewable sources of space heat and electric power. Solar thermal collectors provide thermal energy to heat water and building living spaces. When employed with the latest generation of solar thermal collectors, the Cool Energy SolarFlow™ System delivers solar electricity when heat from the collectors is not needed in the host buildings. During warmer weather conditions when surplus heat is available from the solar collectors, the system produces electricity.
During the winter months, most of the energy from the collectors is used to heat the building's living space. In the summertime, the system's engine converts that thermal energy to electricity when it is needed the most. Peak electrical loading requirements are well matched with the SolarFlowT System.
The novel SolarHeart™ Engine component of the system converts medium temperature heat from sources such as solar thermal collectors, and geothermal and waste heat, and converts that heat into electricity as an alternative or supplemental source of grid power.
Stirling engine principles were used as a foundation for the SolarHeart™ Engine development. A combination of advanced materials for performance improvement and off-the-shelf components allows the engine to generate electricity more economically than other renewable systems.
The SolarFlow™ System’s controller uses intelligent control algorithms to maximize owner savings based on the temperature, time of day, weather, season, etc. It also factors in the prices of electricity and heat to determine which energy source will provide the most value to your home or business at any given time of the day or year.
The market potential for distributed energy as a supplement to the grid, or in stand-alone (off-grid) applications is enormous, and includes the U.S. and developed nations as well as the vast population of the developing world.
SOLARGEN™ ENGINE FOR CONCENTRATING SOLAR POWER
Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) is a relatively inexpensive way to deliver power during peak and off-peak periods of demand. Solar thermal electric power is ideally suited to generate peak power during peak periods of demand. Solar thermal energy storage enables heat to be stored for release after the sun sets or on cloudy days.
The market for solar thermal CSP is immense considering that a land area less than 100 square miles could power the entire electricity needs of the U.S. New installations are presently being planned across the world, and include such countries as the U.S., Israel, Spain, Greece and Jordan.
CEI is developing a novel engine that will tap into this bright, sunny market by offering improved efficiencies over currently available technologies. Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) analyses show a 15-45% cost reduction over current CSP plants using the SolarGen™ Engine.
COOL SOLAR INSTALLATION SERVICES
Cool Energy has partnered with Richard Roth, a Licensed Master Electrician and certified solar photovoltaic installer to create Cool Solar Incorporated. (www.coolsolarinc.com)
Cool Solar will help you to design, install, and provide financing advice and solutions for solar power systems for your home or commercial building throughout Colorado and the rest of the Rocky Mountain Region.
Generous government incentives make solar energy a win-win proposition:
- 30% federal tax credit for both heating and PV systems (with a $2,000 cap for residential installations);
- 60% rebate in Xcel Energy territories of Colorado ($4.50/Watt installed);
- An accelerated depreciation allows businesses to write off their system in five years.
Assess the incentives available to you at the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency: www.dsireusa.org.
Cool Solar is committed to world-class customer service, progressive environmental values, highly valued employees, and increased sustainability in our local communities. With 30 years of construction experience, IBEW affiliation, and NABCEP certification, Cool Solar can be trusted to install solar equipment on your home or business.
SOLAR PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND FINANCING SERVICES
Cool Energy brings customers, investors, and installers together to help design, organize, manage and determine financing solutions for the most economical solar equipment installations for homes, commercial buildings, and residential and commercial developments.
Customers who do not wish to fully fund a solar system can consider Cool Energy’s third party financing services:
Cool Energy:
- Designs and installs the system based on the home or building owner’s needs.
- Solar equipment installation is handled by Cool Solar or partner companies.
- Receives the utility rebates for the customer installation.
- With investor partner(s), owns and maintains the PV equipment.
- Sells the power produced by the solar system to the customer at a fixed price, which is lower than market rates.
Customer:
- Receives on-site, carbon-free solar electric power for little or no up-front costs.
- A low monthly payment hedges against rising electricity prices by locking into below current market rates for 10-20 years.
- Has no maintenance responsibility.
- Significantly reduces his or her carbon footprint.
